Greg Schmigel's Photographs New York City on His iPhone

Posted by Francesca Alfano On Friday, November 12, 2010

For many reasons I am completely and utterly in love with this city. Mostly though it’s the eccentric mix of people from around the world and how they manage to weave together into a vibrant city where something is always going on. New York City is a chaotic mess that somehow works as a perfectly ticking clock, beautiful and unstoppable. Photographer Greg Schmigel captures everything I love about New York city in a series of intimate photos shot on his iPhone. These photos are incredible, especially since they were all shot using a iPhone.

I believe that about 90% of photography is about what the photographer sees. The choice of camera makes up for the rest. My iPhone just happens to be the camera that's always with me.
My photographs take a quick candid look at everyday moments in the lives of the people and strangers that I encounter on the street or in public places. I find beauty in these simple aspects of life; the face of a stranger, the gate of a man, the shadows or reflections of a woman or even the simple smile on the face of a passing child.
